It was a colorful and lively afternoon as the guests, media, and Davao City officials got together for the media launch of the Kadayawan Festival last July 3, 2017 at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao.
One can truly feel the Kadayawan spirit at the grand ballroom of the hotel as it was lighted and decorated colorfully. Delicious finger food were also prepared for the guests.
Though the Kadayawan festivities officially start in August, Department of Tourism 11 Regional Director Robby Alabado III said the media launch and early announcement of one of the biggest festivals in the country will allow tourists to plan early for their trip to Davao City.
The Kadayawan Festival is held annually to celebrate life and give thanksgiving to the gifts of nature and fruitful harvest. It is also being held to celebrate and highlight the rich and colorful 11 tribes of Davao City.
“As much as the festival is a recognition of the indigenous tribes of the city, it is also an opportunity for us to transcend boundaries and show the world that we are one diverse community working in unity towards peace, inclusive growth, and environmental and cultural protection,” Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio said.
During the 32nd Kadayawan Festival media launch, the festival’s official logo was revealed to the guests and the media.
Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) President Capt. Ronald Go and Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio led the unveiling of the logo together with the 11 deputy mayors of the tribes in the city.
“The spectacle of the festival is as colorful as the Philippine eagle in our special logo, composed of a variety events, encouraging huge participation from Dabawenyos of all ages. The pageantry of the Kadayawan 2017 is touted to be the most engaging to date; as it provides experiential and interactive happenings,” said Renato “Gatchi” Gatchalian, Davao Tourism Association (Data) president and festival director.
The festivities will kick-off on August 14 with the Pag-Abli sa Kadayawan at the Magsaysay Park and will culminate with the staging of the Pamulak sa Kadayawan on August 20.
“I call on all Dabawenyos to join us in this year’s Kadayawan…I invite Filipinos and foreigners alike to come to Davao and experience a Kadayawan festival like never before,” said Duterte-Carpio.
Also included in this year’s line-up of events are the Kadayawan Village, Bantawan, Habi Kadayawan, Subang Sinugdanan ug Panagtagbo, Dula Kadayawan, Hiyas sa Kadayawan, Kaondayawan, Mugna Kadayawan, Indak-indak sa Kadalanan, Tunog Kadayawan, Sayaw Kadayawan, and Pitik Kadayawan. “Through Kadayawan, we want to show to the rest of the world that we truly believe in our city — we believe in what we have, in what we have to offer. We want to offer this to everyone,” said Go.
For her part, Duterte-Carpio said, “Life is here in Davao City and now, more than ever, we are committed to the embodiment of this maxim. Allow us to amaze you with a fiesta of colors and culture; of gastranomic delights and pulsating music and dance. Allow us to showcase the best of Davao and the best of the Dabawenyo.”
