Kape Diaries’ Favorite Coffee Shops of 2025

When people ask me how much coffee I had in a year, I would jokingly say maybe around 1,000 cups. That’s a rough estimate based on my average of two to three cups a day.

Meanwhile, the cafes and coffee shops I visited this year would be roughly more than 50, covering those in Davao City as well as my trips to Thailand and Manila. Many of my visits in Davao City were mostly revisits of familiar shops, with some becoming regular stops. I wish I had explored more new places in the city, but 2025 was a very busy year, limiting me to only a handful of visits.

I thought I wouldn’t be able to put together a favorite list this year. But after reflecting over a glass of Americano, I managed to put together my annual list.

Cafe de Vivre

When it comes to exploring the complexities of coffee, Cafe de Vivre was my go-to. As the “showroom” of Maison Croife’s beans, I love how each visit lets me experience something different.

Here, I enjoyed the sweet, fine robusta beans of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, or the bright arabica beans of Mt. Apo. They helped me appreciate local beans more by serving them in different ways—Americano, with milk, or a simple pour-over.

One Corner

I enjoy One Corner for how different each visit can feel. This is mainly because they host themed events every other month and regularly add new items.

The Little Red Riding Hood theme in September was fun, but they outdid themselves with their New York-themed weekends in December. It was one of their well-thought-out events, from the featured food items to the space design.

Kiks

My second home in Obrero. I like hanging out here, whether I’m alone or with friends. Kiks is one of those coffee shops where it seems that you are visiting a friend’s house.

Their Ca Phe Sua Dua is my favorite Vietnamese coffee in Davao City, and their lasagna is top tier—my favorite in the city.

Hot Mess Diner

I love what they have to offer. Their coffee is quite good — I especially enjoy the Americano, though some days I go for the café latte. The food is also solid: Neapolitan pasta, breakfast plate, omurice, and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich are my regular orders. And their chocolate chip cookies are a favorite.

I also like the overall vibe and look of the place. This was my go-to shop whenever I needed a spot to work or chill in Ponciano or Bolton.

T’Brews

My other go-to in Obrero when I want to escape the busyness of the week. Coming here always feels like visiting a friend’s house. The shop exudes warmth and friendliness, making it a relaxing stay.

I usually order their Americano or the Aphrodite.

Hall of Fame: Lot38

Lot38 remains among my favorite coffee shops in Davao City. It’s one of the places I recommend to anyone who wants to experience the colorful world of coffee. From their pour-overs to their signature drinks, Lot38 challenges how you see coffee and invites you deeper into its world.

I also love that it’s away from the city center. The shop makes for a quiet escape where you can enjoy your favorite brew.

Favorite New Discovery: Hot Mess Diner

The moment I sat down and ordered my first Americano at Hot Mess Diner, I knew I had found a gem. What drew me in was how they don’t overwhelm you with aesthetics or an overly complicated menu. Nothing fancy—just good food and coffee.

Honorable Mention: Hid’n Coffee

Some of you know my connection here, but this isn’t just a shameless plug. I genuinely think that having an outdoor coffee shop in the heart of the city, where you can relax and enjoy a good cup, is rare.

It’s hard for me to work here because many days I just want to lounge. The setup offers a quick escape from the concrete jungle—you’re under the trees, and it’s generally quiet. Lastly, breakfast at Before Weekend is always top tier.
