Review: Sarangani Highlands Garden

I had an awesome time with my family during the Christmas break but by January 2016 family members who work at the other parts of the country had to leave to get back to work. The first to leave was my little brother, who works in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

After sending him off at the airport me and my parents plus my other relatives went to Sarangani Highlands Garden (SHG) for lunch. Since it opened its doors in 2007, it has become a must-go place in General Santos City.

The place

True to its name, the place is really a garden, with a wide range of plants, trees, and flowers of different species. The landscaping was very beautiful and would be great for photos. Me and my cousins enjoyed taking photos at the Japanese garden (above) where there is also a pond with lots of koi.

SHG also has a deck overlooking the beautiful Sarangani Bay. Unfortunately, I was not able to take a photo of it because it was being set up for a wedding. I was able to explore it though while the staff were decorating the deck.

It also has function halls for events and has a 25-room hotel for those who want to stay the night. Click this link for more details on the rooms.

THE FOOD

The food at SHG was delicious! It was also reasonably priced. Each dish serves 3-4 people.

So here are the food we ordered:

For dessert we had Mango Float (Php65) (below), Durian Float (it is not in the menu but it is offered; I forgot the price), and Leche Flan (Php65). All three were great but the Mango Float and Durian Float were served frozen and we had to wait for it to soften.

To end the meal, I ordered a cup of Brewed Sarangani Blend Coffee (Php60), which was good. The chocolates beside it were brought by my mom and doesn’t come with the coffee. Just took a photo of the two because coffee served with a side of chocolates is amazing.

THE SERVICE

Despite the delicious food, the service was not that good. We had to wait for one hour for the food to be served. For my coffee, I had to wait for around 20 minutes before it was served. My shake was also served at the middle of the meal.

Having said that, it is good to note that the waiter who took care of us was simply wonderful! He was very attentive, checked on us once in a while, he was at the area most of the time, and requests were attended to.

BOTTOM LINE

Overall, SHG is really a great place to go to with your family. Though the service was not that good, the food and the waiter, who was at our table, compensated for it.

The place itself is really nice and very relaxing. Here’s a suggestion, you can take photos while you wait for the food!
