Kape Diaries: Table for three at The Fat Cow

A few weeks ago, I had lunch with Ferina and Glenn in this new restaurant at Mabini Extension, Davao City called The Fat Cow, which had its soft opening on April 20, 2016.

The restaurant does not feature a specific type of cuisine but I can say their food is sort of a fusion of different cuisines.

THE FOOD

For our appetizer, we ordered the Choricheese Croquettes (P180) with truffle cream, balsamic reduction, and cilantro. It tasted quite good. For an appetizer I think it is quite heavy. If you are eating alone, this dish would satisfy your tummy even before your main dish. This is a good dish to order if you are eating with friends.

Glenn and I had The Fat Cow Burger (P260) with fries and onion rings. The burger patty is a 200g Aussie Beef. The burger also has tomato jam, bacon, and caramelized onions.

The burger was great! The patty was juicy and the onion rings were delicious too. The fries was just okay.

Ferina had the Umami Chicken (P260) with cheese risotto, coleslaw, and garlic infused honey. I had a bite and it tasted good. Ferina says it is not the best fried chicken out there but she enjoyed the meal. The cheese risotto was also good.

THE PLACE

The restaurant’s interior has a modern theme to it. They have an open kitchen instead of having it in a separate area. It is quite enjoyable to watch what the chefs are doing. They have tables for both big and small groups. The restaurant was also clean when we went there.

THE SERVICE

The service was quite good. I like how the owner was very hands on in taking care of the customers and managing the kitchen. The waiters were also attentive.

The only problem we had then was they did not have an official receipt yet when we ate there. We had to also pay in cash then since they do not have a credit card terminal. Hopefully they are able to issue an official receipt now and accept credit cards.

EXPERIENCE

The dining experience was generally good. The food tasted really good especially their burger and the onion rings that came with it. The service was also wonderful, the staff were attentive. The place was clean too. Will be coming back here next time to try out the other dishes.

BONUS CONTENT

After having lunch at The Fat Cow, the three of us proceeded to Yellow Hauz, which is just a walk from the restaurant, for some drinks and dessert. This place is among the popular home grown coffee shops in Davao City.

It is a go to place for those who are looking for a quiet place to study, relax, or work. Though I have not tried using their WiFi, I think it is quite good since a lot of people come here.

They have seating areas both indoor and outdoor. The place is also very homey and the ambiance is relaxing.

For dessert, we ordered Mud Pie (P95) and Nutella Bar (P65). The Mud Pie was delicious and the slice was big for P95. The Nutella Bar was meh, I can’t taste the Nutella and it tasted like your an ordinary chocolate cake or brownie.

For our drinks, I had the Photocoffee (P140), which is blended coffee with white chocolate and orange while Glenn had the Green Tea Latte (P100). I forgot what Ferina had. 😉
