When I was doing my research on where to eat in Sagada, I happen to note that Yoghurt House always comes up in many recommendations. I told Mei that we should try this out.
Yoghurt House was just a short walk from where we were staying, Labanet Lodge.
THE PLACE
Yoghurt House has a pretty homey atmosphere. It has tables and chairs that can cater to groups, couples, and individuals. I also like how well lighted it is inside. However, I do find the place to be too tight and crowded as the tables were quite near to one another.
It is a two-floor house. On the first floor, you can find the kitchen, counter, and dining table. There are more tables and chairs on the second floor.
You can also dine at the balcony upstairs. It was already evening when we came here and it was freezing cold outside, so we ate inside instead. However, I suggest you eat at the balcony in the morning for breakfast.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the place. I try to get a shot of the exterior of the place but it was already evening and the photo was too dark.
THE FOOD
Yoghurt House offers fairly good options of pasta courses, chicken, pork, holiday specials, sandwiches, vegetables, salads, desserts, and their homemade yoghurt.
There were 10 of us, so we ordered a number of dishes but I would like to focus on what I had and tried.
I ordered the Sweet Spicy Java Chicken (P200) and two homemade yoghurt bowls, Sagada Honey Yoghurt (P100), and Banana, Granola, and Strawberry Preserve (P110).

The Sweet Spicy Java Chicken was fairly good. It came with a small serving of salad, which has fresh lettuce, cucumber, and carrots. I find the sauce to be fairly flavorful and the chicken I had was tender. I was expecting the sauce to be spicy or mildly spicy but it was neither. You get hints of spiciness though.

The Sagada Honey Yoghurt was good. I like the combination of the sweetness of the honey and the sourness of the yoghurt.
I enjoyed the Banana, Granola, and Strawberry Presserve. I also liked how the flavors from the banana, strawberry, and yoghurt came together. It find that there was a godd balance between sweet and sour. The slices of banana, strawberries, and granola also added texture to the yoghurt bowl.
I also took a bite of my seatmates’ food, T-bone steak (P380) and Mexican Pork Open Sandwich (P150).

The T-bone steak was served with Norwegian cabbage and mashed potatoes. I was not able to try the steak but my seatmate seemed to enjoy it. However, I was able to try the mashed potatoes, which I find to be really good and flavorful.
Mexican Pork Open Sandwich was slices of bread topped with pork cutlets, tomatoes,
cucumber, lettuce, mozzarella, sugar beats, and tartar sauce. It was fairly good but I find it messy to eat. I just find the “open sandwich” odd. For me it’s not sandwich if the bread is missing a pair.
In terms of cost, it was quite pricey here. Starters are from P100 to P150, sandwiches and salads are around P140 to P180; main courses (pasta, chicken, vegetables, pork, and specials) are from P190 to P380, yoghurt bowls are from P90 to P160, beverages are from P20 to P130.
We did not have desserts anymore but on the menu they have Lemon Tart, Fruit Tart, and Cupcake topped with yoghurt and honey. All three are priced at P60 each, which I think is fairly reasonable.
THE SERVICE
The service was not memorable. It took a while before our orders were taken. There was also grumbling and mumbling from the staff when we asked politely if we can join two tables for four since there were ten of us. Luckily, a table that could cater to our big group became vacant and we transferred there.
I also noticed rolling of the eyes from the staff serving our table when we asked water to serve. She responded in a not so friendly manner that water is self service. She could just have said it politely.
Our food was also served after 30 minutes but it felt longer or maybe I was just tired. I also did not find the staff to be friendly nor attentive.
BOTTOM LINE
Yoghurt House offers fairly good food and the place was quite nice. However, I do find the price to be quite high.
The service also leaves a lot to be desired. I wish the staff could have been friendlier.
I could extend my patience to bear with their service to eat here and order their yoghurt bowl, which I really enjoyed.
Yoghurt House is located along South Road, Sagada. It is open daily from 8:00am to 8:30pm.
