Misssy Bon Bon: CDO’s homegrown cafe

I had a business trip to Cagayan de Oro a couple of months ago. During my travels, I usually check out the local cafes or coffee shops in the city I am at.

For my trip here, I decided to do a review of Cagayan de Oro’s homegrown cafe and bakery, Missy Bon Bon. I have been here a couple of times before to buy their pastel but never had a meal here. It is also a good thing that their flagship store in Limketkai Mall is near the hotel.

On our first night in Cagayan de Oro City, we also had desserts here after having meetings in the afternoon.

I went to the cafe for lunch on the second day in Cagayan de Oro City. Compared to our quick visit a night before, there was a pretty light crowd for the lunch hour on the day of my visit.

I find the restaurant’s interior to be simple yet very appealing. With yellow as the dominant color of their branding, you would expect a cafe just filled with shades of yellow. But instead their interior’s dominant color is a light shade of beige complemented by teal and shades of brown.

During daytime, the cafe is well lighted thanks to its big windows. In the evening, it is also well lighted. The light color of the interior adds brightness to the cafe.

There are also a lot of seating options you can choose from but I would recommend the seats near the windows.

There is also a corner of the store where they sell their pastries, which they are famous for. I prefer their pastel buns here over the other popular brand. Pastel are soft rolls filled with yema (custard).

During my lunch here I ordered their Baby Back Ribs (P335) and a slice of Rainbow Cake (P110) for dessert. I also ordered a cup of Cappuccino (P95).

Baby Back Ribs

The Baby Back Ribs was served with a side of coleslaw, buttered corned, and barbecue sauce. I loved this dish! The ribs I had were tender and I just love how saucy it was. The sauce itself was really good.

Rainbow Cake

When the Rainbow Cake was served to me, it did not look as good as the photo on the menu; so, I did not have high expectations when it comes to how it will taste. Then I took a bite. It was good! I love how it is not very sweet. It also has this sort of citrus-y flavor that I cannot pin point but I love that kick of citrus.

Cappuccino; I love the design of the mug by the way

The low point of the meal was Cappuccino. It did not have that thick foam of steamed milk on top. I asked the server that if this is their cappuccino and she said yes. When I took a sip, I found it to be a watered down cappuccino. I think there was too much milk in their cappuccino. In my mind was, this is not cappuccino, this is more of a latte. At least their latte had the same price with their cappuccino.

Mango Float Sundae

Meanwhile, during our visit here for dessert a night before, I ordered a Mango Float Sundae. It was really good. A perfect way to end our first night in Cagayan de Oro City and just what I needed to finally decide to do a review of the cafe.

For both visits I find the service to be pretty good. During my lunch here, I like how attentive the staff to not only my needs but also of the other customers dining here. I like that they know about the products on their menu too.

I would definitely visit the cafe again whenever I visit Cagayan de Oro again. However, I would think twice ordering their coffee drinks. If not for a meal, I would buy pasalubongs here.
